Ex still living in the room I paid for in my parents’ house, parents refuse to chase him out

My ex-boyfriend still lives rent-free in my bedroom at my parents’ HDB flat 1 year AFTER we broke up. My parents treat him like their real son and won’t let me kick him out.

This sounds like a fictional joke, but it is my daily living nightmare.

I (26F) dated “Jeremy” (27M) for 4 years. Three years ago, Jeremy had a quarrel with his own family and got kicked out. Feeling sorry for him, I asked my parents if he could temporarily move into my room in our 5-room HDB flat. My parents agreed.

During the time he stayed with us, Jeremy turned into the ultimate “sucking up” master. He bought my dad cheap stout beer, played mahjong with my mom, fixed their Wi-Fi, and washed my dad’s car every weekend. My parents ended up loving him more than they love me.

Last year, I caught Jeremy texting girls on Telegram asking for “paid hookups.” I broke up with him on the spot.

I told him: “We are over. Pack your things and leave my house by this weekend.”

Jeremy didn’t pack. Instead, he went to the living room, fell on his knees in front of my parents, squeezed out fake tears, and cried: “Uncle, Aunty, I made a mistake, but I have no where else to go in Singapore! If I leave, I will sleep on the streets!”

My mom immediately hugged him and told me: “Girl! How can you be so cold-hearted?! Jeremy is like a son to us! He can stay in the guest room until he finds a place!”

THAT WAS ONE YEAR AGO.

Jeremy is STILL living in my parents’ flat.

  • He pays $0 rent. $0 utilities.
  • My mom washes his underwear and cooks dinner for him every single day.
  • When I walk out of my bedroom in my pajamas, my EX-BOYFRIEND is sitting on the sofa watching TV in his shorts.
  • I brought a new guy I’m casually dating back to my house last month, and my parents locked the door and refused to let us in, saying: “Don’t bring random men home to hurt Jeremy’s feelings!”

JEREMY HURT MY FEELINGS FIRST! HE IS THE CHEATER!

I can’t take this anymore. I am currently sleeping on my friend’s sofa because living in my own parents’ house with my ex-boyfriend around is giving me severe anxiety.

I threatened my parents that I will call the police for trespass. My dad said: “This is MY house! I am the main lessee! I can invite whoever I want to stay! If you don’t like it, YOU move out!”

Is there ANY legal way a child can remove an unwanted occupier from a parent’s HDB flat if the parent insists on harboring him? Or am I forced to rent outside while my cheater ex lives rent-free with my parents?
