62-year-old woman badly injured after man allegedly sets her on fire at Malaysia lottery outlet

A 62-year-old woman was left critically injured after an unidentified man allegedly doused her with petrol and set her alight at a lottery outlet in Taman Pusat Kepong, Malaysia.

The incident happened at around 8am on Aug. 9, with police alerted shortly afterwards. The woman was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for emergency treatment after suffering burns to around half of her body.

Her condition was later described as critical but stable. However, her family said doctors had warned them to prepare for the possibility of her condition deteriorating because of the severity of her injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the attack remain unclear, with police still searching for the man responsible.

Attack appeared to be unprovoked

According to local reports, the victim had no known enemies and had not previously received any threats.

Police have yet to establish a motive for the attack. The suspect has also not been identified or arrested at the time of reporting.

Footage shared by the victim’s family appears to show a man wearing a hoodie and covering his face as he approached the lottery outlet. He was reportedly carrying an object in his hand as he entered the premises.

The man was subsequently seen leaving the area, while flames could be seen behind him.

The footage has since been circulated as the victim’s family appealed to members of the public for information that could help investigators identify the suspect.

Daughter appeals for information

The woman’s daughter also shared details of the incident on Facebook, explaining how the family initially received a shocking call informing them that their mother had been injured.

The family reportedly rushed to the outlet after receiving the call and only then learnt what had happened.

Although the victim’s condition has stabilised, her injuries remain extremely serious. Her family is now hoping that witnesses or anyone with relevant information will come forward to assist the police investigation.

Kepong Member of Parliament Lim Lip Eng has also spoken out about the incident, describing the attack as an act of extreme cruelty.

He has offered a RM5,000 reward, equivalent to about S$1,563, for information that could help lead to the identification of the suspect.

Public urged not to approach suspect

Lim urged anyone who may have information about the incident to report it to the authorities rather than attempting to confront or apprehend the suspect themselves.

The reward is intended to encourage witnesses and members of the public with potentially useful information to assist law enforcement.

Police are continuing their investigations and efforts to locate the unidentified man.

The incident has also raised concern among residents in the Kepong area, particularly because the attack appeared to have happened without any apparent warning or prior dispute involving the victim.

Authorities have not publicly confirmed what prompted the attack or whether the suspect knew the victim.

Investigators are expected to examine available surveillance footage, witness accounts and other evidence from the area as they work to establish the circumstances behind the incident.
