Punggol Residents Say Man’s Early-Morning Laughter Has Become a Daily ‘Alarm’

Residents in parts of Punggol have been sharing videos of a man whose unusual early-morning outbursts have reportedly become a familiar sound in the neighbourhood.

Two TikTok videos showing the man walking around Punggol Coast have gone viral, with viewers describing his loud laughter and shouting as an unexpected 6am “alarm”.

One of the videos was uploaded on Aug 10 by TikTok user flowersforteas. It shows a man wearing a black tank top and shorts walking across a traffic junction. He can be heard making a series of deep and disjointed sounds before breaking into loud, rumbling laughter.

The man then arches his back and appears to walk backwards while continuing to laugh. His voice echoes across the area before he lets out a higher-pitched cackle, bringing the short video to an end.

Residents Hear Him Around Punggol

The TikTok user captioned the video by joking that while birds would normally be heard chirping as the sun rises, one man had apparently decided that the entire neighbourhood needed to hear his laughter instead.

Another video, posted by TikTok user farang88798, appears to show the same man shouting from across the road. In the footage, he repeatedly says “SOC, SOC. Special Force” and is also heard counting from one to four twice.

The second TikTok user described the man’s appearances as a daily 6am “alarm” for people living around Punggol Coast, asking viewers whether their own neighbourhoods had anything similar.

Both videos attracted significant attention online. The first had received more than 449,000 views, while the second had accumulated more than 108,000 views at the time of reporting.

TikTok Users Claim Similar Encounters

Comments under the videos suggest that the man’s early-morning appearances may not be limited to one particular stretch of Punggol.

Several users claimed they had heard or encountered him in other parts of the neighbourhood. One commenter said the man had previously been seen near Cove and Riviera LRT stations in the early hours, where he would reportedly shout “Commando”.

Another TikTok user claimed the man could be heard around the Waterway Sunray area at about 5.30am on an almost daily basis.

The comments have since added to the viral nature of the videos, with residents comparing their experiences and identifying locations where they believe they have heard the same distinctive voice.

Viral Videos Spark Online Curiosity

The footage has prompted a mixture of amusement and curiosity among social media users, particularly because the man’s behaviour appears to have become a recurring part of some residents’ early-morning routines.

However, the videos alone do not establish why the man behaves this way, and there is no indication from the footage that he has committed an offence. It is therefore important not to speculate about his personal circumstances or make assumptions about his health based solely on social media clips.

The original TikTok users were contacted for more information about the recordings. As of the reports, there was no further explanation regarding the man’s identity or the reason behind his repeated early-morning shouting and laughter.

For residents living nearby, however, the videos have turned an otherwise ordinary morning routine into an unusual piece of neighbourhood lore — with some apparently waking up to birdsong, while others are greeted by a very different kind of 6am soundtrack.
