A group of boys has allegedly entered an HDB lift shaft at Block 603 Woodlands Drive 42, prompting Sembawang Town Council to file a police report after videos of the incident surfaced on TikTok.
The footage, which began circulating online in August, appears to show boys accessing an area normally restricted to authorised lift maintenance personnel. The incident has raised concerns over the serious safety risks involved, particularly because lift shafts contain moving machinery, electrical equipment and significant fall hazards.
In one video posted on Aug 16, a boy dressed in black can be seen standing on a stool at the lift lobby. He appears to manipulate a mechanism near the upper portion of the lift doors before another boy wearing blue enters the scene.
The boy in blue then appears to pull open the lift doors, exposing the top of the lift cabin. Both boys subsequently enter the lift shaft and stand on top of the lift cabin, while one of them gestures towards the person filming.
Town Council Reports Incident To Police
After spending a short time inside the shaft, the boys climb back out and the lift doors are closed.
Sembawang Town Council confirmed that it was aware of the incident at the Woodlands block and had made a police report. The town council said the matter is currently under investigation and declined to provide further details while investigations continue.
It stressed that the safety of residents remains a priority and that it would continue assisting the police with their investigations.
The town council did not disclose when the incident actually occurred.
A second TikTok video posted on Aug 17 appears to show another person standing on top of a lift cabin. In the footage, the lift moves upwards before stopping near the upper portion of the shaft.
The camera then points down towards the lift doors, where another person appears to open them and briefly look into the shaft.
Second Video May Be Unrelated
The lift subsequently moves downwards and stops. The person filming then appears to leave the lift shaft, with two boys seen outside the lift doors.
It remains unclear whether the two TikTok videos show the same group of people or are connected to the same incident.
The footage has nevertheless highlighted the potentially dangerous consequences of unauthorised access to lift machinery and restricted areas within residential blocks.
Lift shafts are not ordinary access areas, and entering them without proper authorisation can expose individuals to moving lift components, electrical systems and the possibility of serious injury.
The police have been contacted for further information, including whether anyone has been identified or arrested in connection with the incident.
For residents, the case is also a reminder that lift maintenance areas should only be accessed by trained and authorised personnel. Any suspected tampering with lift doors or safety mechanisms should be reported to the relevant town council or authorities rather than investigated personally.
