Ten people were injured after a roller coaster accident at a theme park in Subang Jaya, Malaysia, on Saturday night.
The incident reportedly happened at around 9pm and involved 22 riders, including both Malaysian citizens and foreign tourists. Those on the ride were aged between 11 and 44.
According to police, 10 riders sustained injuries and were taken to medical facilities in the Subang Jaya area for treatment. All the reported injuries were minor, and no fatalities were recorded.
Police Investigate Cause Of Ride Accident
Subang Jaya district police chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said authorities received a report about the incident at around 11.45am the following day.
Police have since begun investigations to establish what caused the roller coaster incident. The circumstances surrounding the ride and whether any safety issues contributed to the accident remain under investigation.
The incident has also attracted considerable attention online after two videos connected to the accident began circulating on social media.
One video, apparently filmed shortly after the incident, showed several people carrying an injured rider on a stretcher near part of the roller coaster track. The area appeared to be surrounded by trees.
Another video filmed during the day showed a crowd gathered around the amusement ride area, while police officers and theme park employees could be seen leaving the vicinity of one of the rides.
Theme Park Operator Cooperating With Authorities
The latest incident has prompted further scrutiny of theme park safety procedures, with authorities seeking information as investigations continue.
People who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant information have been urged to contact the Subang Jaya district police headquarters. Police have said that the identities of those providing information will be kept confidential.
The theme park operator is also working with the authorities as investigations into the roller coaster accident continue.
While all 10 injured riders were reported to have suffered minor injuries, the incident has renewed attention on ride safety and maintenance at amusement parks, particularly as authorities work to determine exactly what happened during the ride.
