Singapore feels suffocated, everything also cannot. Anyone else feeling the squeeze?

Wah lao, honestly sometimes living in Singapore feels like playing a giant real-life game of “The Floor is Lava” mixed with “Don’t Even Think About Doing That.” Everywhere you turn, there is a sign telling you what you cannot do, and every single small everyday thing has a fine or restriction attached to it.

Sibei sian right? Just look at how long the list gets when you actually count all the simple things that are banned:

  1. Firecrackers nope – Want some proper festive atmosphere during Chinese New Year? Cannot, go watch the distant centralized fireworks display instead.
  2. Chewing gum nope – Just want to freshen your breath while walking around? Banned, unless you go polyclinic get a doctor prescription for dental gum.
  3. Skating on the roads nope – Want to commute smoothly on your skateboard, inline skates, or longboard? Strictly prohibited on all public roads.
  4. Smoking via edge of building shelter when it rains also nope – Pouring rain outside so you try to stand just under the tip of the sheltered walkway to puff? Cannot, covered structures are strictly zero-smoking zones, go stand in the rain.
  5. Drink in public at night ban – Knocked off work late and just want to chill on a park bench with a cold beer past 10:30 PM? Nope, Liquor Control Act says go home or pay bar prices.
  6. Jaywalking when the road is completely empty nope – No cars in sight for two kilometers down a straight road? Doesn’t matter, cross outside the pedestrian crossing 40 meters away and risk a fine on the spot.
  7. Connecting to neighbor’s open Wi-Fi nope – Found an unsecured router with no password? Legally under the Computer Misuse Act, piggbacking on open Wi-Fi counts as unauthorized access.
  8. Feeding void deck pigeons nope – See a fat bird looking hungry and toss it a piece of leftover bread crust? Cannot, NParks officers will fine you faster than you can blink.
  9. Singing karaoke loudly in your flat past 10 PM nope – Want to belt out your favorite songs in your own living room late at night? Keep it up and your neighbors will call the police on you for noise nuisance.
  10. Using PMDs on footpaths nope – Thought of riding an e-scooter on the wide sidewalk to buy chicken rice? Completely banned, must stick strictly to narrow cycling paths.

Literally everywhere you step, everything also cannot. Anyone else feeling totally suffocated by all these endless rules, or is it just me? Discuss below.
