A 38-year-old private-hire vehicle (PHV) driver died after his car was involved in a collision along Joo Chiat Road on Sep. 2, 2026.
The man was reportedly found unconscious in the driver’s seat after his Mazda collided with another vehicle. A passerby attempted to revive him by performing CPR before emergency responders arrived.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident occurred at around 11am along Joo Chiat Road in the direction of Marine Parade Central.
Driver found unconscious after collision
A reader who alerted Shin Min Daily News said he was travelling along the road when he came across the accident involving two cars.
The vehicles involved were reportedly a red Nissan Qashqai and a grey Mazda displaying a private-hire vehicle decal. The Mazda sustained significant damage, with its bumper reportedly detached and its lights smashed.
Debris from the damaged vehicle was also scattered across the road following the collision. The driver of the Nissan told Shin Min that he had been on his way to work when he felt his vehicle being struck from behind.
Passerby performed CPR
After getting out of his car to inspect the situation, the Nissan driver reportedly found the Mazda driver motionless and unresponsive in his seat.
A passerby then stepped in and performed CPR on the 38-year-old man while waiting for emergency medical assistance. Paramedics took over resuscitation efforts when they arrived at the scene.
The driver was subsequently placed on a stretcher and conveyed to Changi General Hospital. Reports indicated that he remained unconscious when he was taken to hospital.
Police investigating death
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call about a road traffic accident along Joo Chiat Road at approximately 11am on Sep. 2.
One person was taken to Changi General Hospital following the incident.
The police said they were also alerted at around 11am to an accident involving two cars along Joo Chiat Road towards Marine Parade Central. The 38-year-old male driver was taken to hospital unconscious and subsequently died.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
While initial reports suggested that the driver may have suffered a heart attack before or around the time of the collision, the circumstances surrounding his death have not been conclusively established publicly.
The incident highlights how quickly a medical emergency can turn into a road traffic accident, particularly when a driver becomes incapacitated while behind the wheel. Motorists who encounter an unconscious person following a collision should call emergency services immediately and, where appropriate and safe to do so, provide first aid until help arrives.
