A 41-year-old man was injured after two armed men allegedly opened fire on a vehicle at a petrol station in Bidor, Perak, Malaysia.
The incident happened at about 6.08pm on Tuesday (Sept 29), according to Perak police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.
Police said the victim was travelling as a passenger in a white Toyota Land Cruiser when the vehicle stopped at the petrol station to refuel.
Two men reportedly opened fire before fleeing
While the vehicle was at the station, a black Honda City travelling from the direction of Bidor town reportedly stopped in front of it.
Two men then allegedly got out of the Honda City carrying firearms and fired several shots towards the Toyota Land Cruiser before escaping from the scene.
The 41-year-old victim was struck by a bullet in his left shoulder.
There were five people inside the Toyota at the time of the shooting. Police said the other four occupants were not injured.
The injured man was initially taken to Tapah Hospital for treatment before being transferred to a hospital in Ipoh. He was subsequently moved to Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Police said his condition was stable.
Police recover bullet casings and fragments
Investigators examining the scene recovered a 9mm Luger bullet, four 9mm Luger shell casings and several bullet fragments.
Police also found additional bullet fragments and visible bullet marks on the Toyota Land Cruiser.
Authorities are now examining CCTV footage from several locations around Bidor, including routes and toll plazas, in an effort to establish the suspects’ movements and identify the vehicle involved.
Further forensic examination and analysis of evidence connected to the shooting are also underway.
Case investigated under firearms laws
The case is being investigated under Section 307 of Malaysia’s Penal Code and Section 3(1) of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971.
Police have appealed to anyone who may have information about the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.
Comm Mohd Alwi said authorities were treating the use of firearms seriously and would carry out a thorough investigation to identify those responsible.
The incident remains under investigation, and no arrests were reported in the information released by police at the time of publication.
