The incident happened at Block 333A Yishun Street 31 at around 1pm on Sep. 28.

According to reports, one of the boys, aged 13, was at the block with a friend when they discovered that the electronic lock to his home had run out of battery.

Boys attempted to climb through window

Instead of waiting for the lock to be restored, the two boys reportedly tried to find another way into the flat.

They climbed out from the stairwell and attempted to reach the home through a window.

However, they were unable to complete the attempt and ended up stranded on a parapet located between the second and third floors.

The situation prompted a call for emergency assistance at around 12.50pm.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that when its officers arrived, they found two people on the parapet.

SCDF uses ladder to rescue boys

SCDF firefighters set up a ladder and climbed up to reach the boys.

The two were subsequently brought safely down from the parapet.

Images from the scene showed an SCDF officer using a ladder to reach one of the boys, who was wearing a red top. Police officers were also seen stationed at ground level.

No injuries were reported following the incident.

A 15-year-old boy, believed to be the 13-year-old’s older brother, later told Shin Min Daily News that the family’s electronic door lock had run out of battery.

He said the family rushed home after being informed about what had happened and found police officers speaking to the two boys.

Both boys were reportedly unharmed.

The family subsequently replaced the battery in the electronic door lock, while the 13-year-old’s friend reportedly returned home on his own.

The incident serves as a reminder of the risks involved in attempting to climb between levels of a residential block or enter a home through a window. Such attempts can result in serious falls, particularly from elevated floors.

Residents who encounter an access problem with an electronic lock should seek assistance from family members, building management or a locksmith rather than attempting to climb outside the building.
