A 23-year-old Chinese national pursuing a Master’s degree at the National University of Singapore (NUS) has pleaded guilty to secretly filming his female housemate while she was showering or undressing.
The man, identified as Zeng Ze Qun, allegedly carried out the acts on 10 occasions between June 20 and Aug 18 at a rented private residence in western Singapore.
According to reports by Shin Min Daily News, Zeng told the court that filming his housemate made him feel excited and was a way for him to relieve academic pressure and anxiety.
Housemate Screams After Discovering Filming
The incident that led to his arrest took place at around 9.25pm on Aug 18, when Zeng was having dinner in the kitchen and realised that his housemate was taking a shower.
After putting his unfinished meal in the fridge, he allegedly entered the toilet quietly and reached his arm through a window to record her using his mobile phone.
His housemate subsequently realised what was happening and screamed in alarm. She got dressed and left the toilet, while Zeng fled the scene.
He reportedly went to a nearby shopping mall, where he deleted the videos from his phone in an apparent attempt to cover his tracks.
However, police arrested him after he returned to the residence.
Videos Were Deleted Before Police Could Recover Them
Court documents stated that Zeng had filmed the woman on multiple occasions, including when she was showering or undressing in her bedroom.
Investigators were unable to recover the footage from his phone because he had reportedly been deleting the recordings about a week after making them.
The case highlights the serious invasion
