A 20-year-old man in Singapore secretly recorded a 19-year-old woman showering through her HDB bathroom window and was later found to have filmed the young woman and her 55-year-old mother on multiple occasions.
The incident came to light on 8 April 2026, when the younger woman spotted a mobile phone being used to record her while she was showering. She screamed, prompting the man to flee the scene.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the man pleaded guilty to two charges of voyeurism on 27 October. Another voyeurism charge will be taken into consideration during sentencing, which has been adjourned to 17 December.
A gag order was issued by the court to protect the identities of the two victims.
Man Climbed Onto Ledge To Peer Into HDB Flat
The court heard that the man had gone to a fitness corner in an HDB estate at around 9.20pm on 8 April.
As he walked past the victims’ flat, he climbed onto a ledge to look inside the unit. However, the curtains were drawn, preventing him from seeing whether anyone was in the room, so he returned to the fitness corner.
About 30 minutes later, he heard the sound of someone showering from the flat. He then approached the outside of the bathroom and slid his mobile phone through the bathroom window to record the 19-year-old woman showering.
The woman noticed the phone and screamed, causing the man to run away.
Police Discover More Recordings Of Mother And Daughter
Following the incident, the woman’s mother contacted the police. Investigations subsequently identified the man, and officers discovered additional recordings on his mobile phone.
Among the footage was a video recorded on 22 March showing the 55-year-old mother in the bathroom.
The man had also allegedly recorded 10 videos of the younger woman between 30 March and 8 April. The recordings showed her showering, changing clothes or using the toilet.
The discoveries revealed that the incident was not an isolated occurrence, with both mother and daughter having been targeted on separate occasions.
Victim Left Feeling Unsafe In Her Own Home
The court reportedly heard that the 19-year-old woman was left feeling distressed, vulnerable and unsafe in her own home following the incident.
The invasion of privacy also affected the family’s daily routines. They now make sure their bathroom window is closed before showering.
The case highlights the importance of respecting personal privacy, particularly within residential spaces where people should be able to feel secure.
Sentencing Adjourned To December
The man pleaded guilty to two counts of voyeurism on 27 October. A third charge will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
His sentencing has been adjourned to 17 December.
The identities of the victims remain protected under the court-issued gag order.
The case serves as a reminder that secretly recording someone in a private setting can have serious legal consequences, while leaving victims with lasting feelings of distress and insecurity in their own homes.
