A 30-year-old Singaporean man was seriously injured after reportedly jumping out of a taxi in Bangkok, running onto the road and falling from an expressway.
According to Thai media outlet Siam News, the incident occurred at around 12.43pm local time on 26 October.
The man had reportedly boarded the taxi at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok’s main international airport, but did not provide the driver with a specific destination.
Passenger Allegedly Became Agitated During Journey
According to the taxi driver’s account, the passenger instructed him to continue driving in whichever direction he chose.
However, the situation reportedly took an unexpected turn when the taxi was travelling along the Si Rat Expressway.
The passenger allegedly became agitated and demanded that the driver stop the vehicle.
After the taxi came to a halt, the man reportedly opened the door and ran onto the road.
The driver attempted to follow him and called out for him to return, warning him about the danger. However, the passenger continued running and did not respond to the driver’s attempts to stop him.
Driver Sought Assistance After Incident
Unable to get the man to return, the taxi driver reportedly contacted a radio station to explain what had happened and seek assistance.
The passenger was subsequently found to have fallen from the side of the expressway into a public park below.
He sustained serious injuries in the incident, according to Siam News.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene, provided first aid and transported him to hospital for further medical treatment.
Singaporean Identity Confirmed
Authorities identified the injured man as a Singapore citizen through the passport he was carrying.
Thai police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The authorities will also work with the Singapore Embassy in Thailand to coordinate the necessary follow-up arrangements.
No further details about the man’s condition or the circumstances that led to his actions were provided in the report.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities seek to establish what happened before the passenger left the taxi and fell from the expressway.
