As of March this year, the famous Erawan 4 Face Buddha Shrine located near Grand Hyatt no longer allows lighting of incense.
As stated on a signboard on the fence of the temple,
“Please refrain from lighting the candels and incense sticks. The smoke may be hazardous to health.”
A tourist was seen trying to light up the candles with personal lighters but was quickly stopped by the security in the area.Â
In the past, street vendors were always seen crowded along the temple selling offerings along the fences. Tourist used to get scammed by paying up to ten times more for the offerings.
This my 1st time at Erawan Shrine with my friends. When we arrived, the tutu driver tell us to buy flower and incense sticks. The lady recommend 400 baht simple yellow flower, after she recommend again with Orchid at 600 baht. She told my friend total is 1200 baht. When we decide pay for flower at 1200 baht for both of us she add few piece of paper gold. tell us total 2400 baht. My friend told me say 1200 baht. At that moment i was thinking since is praying item. We don mind. But the problem is the gold paper don stick to the pole at all. After all i was thinking i feel like been scam.
The shrine does not seem to be that crowded anymore.
