I would like to put your attention to an incident that happened during a National Football League match at Yishun Stadium yesterday (21/10/18) between Gymkhana FC and Katong FC. I am a frequent jogger at Yishun Stadium and enjoys watching amateur football at the stadium as well. At about 6.30pm,
I witnessed a player man handled the referee during the game and there was a commotion soon after. The referee was injured and could not continue to officiate the game. He was then replaced by another referee. Police and ambulance were called in to attend to the matter.
The injured referee was then conveyed to the hospital. I believe this is not the first time such incident happened in the local Football fraternity especially the National Football League. I hope this incident could be featured in the media to serve as a reminder to aspiring footballers of having sportsmanship and respecting the match officials.
