Not sure if this is the trend, but found this shop at Blk 211 Bedok Central selling ugly fruits.
To qualify, the shop does not only sell ugly fruits, but they sell regular fruits too. And before the fruits turn really bad, they will do clearance sale at a steep discount. And they are able to attract crowds.
How they price – they go by per bag, usually $5 or $7, for as many as you can stuff in. This makes it easy for them to administer, and to move fruits in bulk. I have ever purchased 19 pink lady apples for $5 and 24 packham pears for $5. A friend has bought 16 avocadoes for $7. This is much lower than what we can typically find in supermarkets, even if the items go on sale. And the fruits do fly off the store’s shelves. The fastest I have seen them clear 1 box is 5 minutes.
Shows that perhaps customers do know that ugly fruits are perfectly edible, but they are willing to buy only if the price reduction is significant enough (in this shop’s case – at least about 55-75% discount). If bigger supermarket chains can do likewise, they will be able to cut wastage too.
