The Police Coast Guard (PCG) arrested two male subjects, aged 16 years and 21 years respectively, for attempted unlawful entry into Singapore on 10 February 2019.
On 10 February 2019 at 10.46pm, in collaboration with the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), the PCG detected one wooden craft with the two on board at sea off East Coast Park heading towards Singapore. At 11.33pm, the two were swiftly intercepted and arrested for attempted unlawful entry into Singapore under the Immigration Act, Chapter 133.
The 21-year-old Erpendi was sentenced to 6 weeks’ imprisonment and 4 strokes of the cane. In consultation with the Attorney-General’s Chambers, the 16-year-old male was administered with a stern warning in lieu of prosecution on 12 February 2019.
The ICA and PCG take a serious view of attempts to enter Singapore illegally. Under the Immigration Act, Chapter 133, the penalties for attempted unlawful entry are a jail term of up to 6 months and a minimum of 3 strokes of the cane.
