
On the 12th of December 2018, a fatal accident happened on PIE involving a couple on a motorbike, a bus and a lorry.
Danial Andika Mohman was riding his bike with his girlfriend as a pillion at around 10 pm, two vehicles suddenly collided and an accident occurred on his way ahead, multiple vehicles on the road had to E-brake to avoid the accident.
Danial could not stop his vehicle in time and ended up hitting a lorry that was ahead of him. The collision of his motorbike caused both Danial and his girlfriend to be flung on to the road. A bus that was behind the couple could not avoid his girlfriend in time and ran over her.
His girlfriend was pulled from under the bus and send to NUS hospital but she succumbed to her injuries at around 11.25 pm.
Danial admitted that he did not keep a proper lookout and was convicted of causing death due to negligence. He was handed an S$6,000 fine and disqualifications of all driving/riding licenses for 3 years.
His lawyer told the court that he was supposed to marry his girlfriend and the accident was caused by a collision that had happened moments before Danial arrives at the area of the accident, His lawyer also pleaded for a lighter sentence as Danial could not afford the fine.
The judge allowed an instalment of S$1,000 a month.
