[SKH’s confirmed staff case of COVID-19]
We confirm that one of our nurses has tested positive for COVID-19. This is Case 741 announced by the Ministry of Health. The staff had sought medical attention at our Emergency Department (ED) on 25 March 2020 due to respiratory symptoms. She subsequently tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted to our isolation ward.
Prior to seeking medical attention at our ED, she was working on the night shift which began on 24 March. She had been wearing a mask, in compliance with the hospital’s precautionary infection measures, while at work. She had developed symptoms close to midnight on 24 March and had continued with her shift until 25 March morning. She presented at our ED on the same day.
Contact tracing is currently underway. Colleagues and patients who were in contact with her had been updated immediately and we have been monitoring their health. We have taken the necessary measures to mitigate the risk of spread, which includes disinfecting the relevant areas.
We remain on heightened vigilance to keep our patients, their loved ones, and staff safe through measures such as proper hand hygiene, wearing the appropriate PPE, safe distancing and seeking medical attention promptly when unwell.
We will continue to provide all our care and support for our affected staff.
