FAMILY OF S’POREAN IN US WITH CANCER RAISE FUNDS TO BRING HER HOME

Singaporean, Ms Lerine Li, 42, hopes of a fresh start in the United States have turned into a nightmare as she battles cancer alone. Her family in Singapore is desperately trying to bring her home so she can spend her final days with her family.

Due to the Covid outbreak, the option of flying home on a commercial flight with a nurse is now not possible. This option would already cost $35,000. Her only option now is an air ambulance which would cost a hefty $235,000.

Her family now is trying to raise the money as cancer slowly tightens its grip on Ms Liu.

Ms Liu arrive in New York three months ago to start a new life after ending a four year relationship. She manage to get a job in merchandising and she found an apartment in New Jersey. But due to the corona outbreak, he job offer was rescinded.

She was then diagnosed with stage four breast cancer which has spread to her lungs and her liver. Ms Liu’s savings have also been “wiped out, with probably only about a few thousand left in her bank account”, her sister said.

“We want to bring her back to Singapore so that we can walk the last leg of her journey with her… Lerine keeps saying she wants to come back, and I just want to grant her last wish,” Her sister added.

Her hospital bills are being covered by an assistance programme under the New Jersey State Department of Health.
