
In view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Singapore government had decided to bring forward their plan to issue all secondary school students laptops or tablets for their learning by 2021.
The plan was originally scheduled to commence 7 years later. This is a method adopted to ensure that social mobility is in place. According to Senior Minister Tharman Shamugaratnam, social mobility has been part of Singapore identity which help Singapore to transform its society.
According to Mr Tharaman, Singapore government with working with their partners to provide all Singaporeans with the same opportunities by investing in early childhood development and providing resources for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
During the circuit breaker, the Ministry of Education has ensured that help was given to students from a disadvantaged background. This is to ensure that they do not lack behind due to lack of resources and more support will be given in the coming years.
The action taken by the Singapore government is to ensure that each individual is given to opportunities to do well regardless of their starting point.
