It is important to note that several Covid-19 cases who died, were deaths from other causes, namely:

  • Blood clots
  • Dying in a dormitory
  • Dying from a fall in hospital

And now a Singaporean man with Covid-19 has also dided but wasnn’t added to the death toll because he died from cardiorespiratory failure.

In a media update on July 8, the Ministry of Health reported that a 69 year old man was found in his home unresponsive, he was then taken to Sengkang General Hospital where he was then pronounced dead.

He was tested for Covid 19 and it came back positive.

It is unclear how he got the virus and he is currently classified as an unlinked case in the community.

The Ministry added that the man suffered from diabetes mellitus, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, hypothyroidism and chronic kidney disease as well, they recording him as showing onset of symptoms on 27 June.

His death is currently being investigated by the coroner, however preliminary ruling on the cause is cardiorespiratory failure and not a Covid-19 death, because deaths are added to the official Covid-19 death toll only when the attending doctor or pathologist attributes the primary or underlying cause of death as due to the coronavirus.

MOH added that this death classification method is in conjunction to what is internationally adhered to.

Singapore’s official death toll from Covid-19 remains at 26 at the time of writing.
