Ex-PAP MP, Inderjit Singh stated in his Facebook post that “PAP IBs (internet brigade) were hitting below the belt and resorted to charter assassination instead of having an intellectual argument of ideas and policies.”

Here is what was stated in a portion of a Facebook post from Inderjit Singh’s Facebook.

“The group that likely mostly voted against the PAP were the young voters, especially the millennials. They want to have diversity of views; they want more contestation of ideas and are not content with one party just pushing their policies without enough debate. They want to be more involved and don’t accept the bureaucratic style of the PAP government.”

“The social media had great influence on them. Although the campaign rules did not allow physical rallies, the opposition made very good use of the social media and online rallies to get their messages through and these resonated with the young voters. The PAP online campaign was lacking, and it did not help that many PAP friendly sites who are likely PAP IBs were hitting below the belt and resorted to character assassination instead of having an intellectual argument of ideas and policies. Sentiments expressed among this group online reveal that they disagreed with what some have called “gutter politics”. The younger voters appeared to be displeased with the PAP styles of campaigning. Another factor was the quality of candidates in the opposition that many of the younger voters could relate with. I will elaborate on both later. I believe more than 50% of the young voted for the opposition this time.”
