
According to a media release, a 57-year-old man was sentenced to 11 weeks of jail after he swung a beer bottle at an NEA officer at a coffee shop at Eunos. The man was caught smoking in the coffee shop at the time of the incident.
The incident happened on 19 Sept 2018 while 3 NEA officers were doing their rounds at the coffee shop located at Block 7 Eunos Crescent.
The man was spotted smoking at a prohibited area. After the 3 NEA officers identified themselves the man refused to cooperate. One of the officers then proceeds to issue him a notice to attend court.
After receiving the court notice the man asked the officers to give him a chance before picking up a beer bottle from a nearby table and swung it at the female officer. She then screamed and ran away from the man, but she tripped and caused her to fall onto the ground. The other officer who tried to stop the man was also hit by the hit by the man on his cheek.
According to the law, the man could be sentenced to up to 7 years of jail, fined, caned or any combination of the 3 for causing hurt to a public servant.
