Yesterday (July 15), Sa’adiah Jamari, 39, a babysitter who was accused of poisoning two babies under her care, admitted to lying in a police statement and court documents.

In her statement, she said that when the babies had flu, she crushed half an adult flu tablet because she had no medication for children.

However, in court, she said that she had lied because she was “provoked by the police, so I had to say I gave something (sic).”

She also denied administering medication to the two children.

Jamari is accused of two counts of giving poisons to the baby girls with the intention of hurting them – an assortment of drugs were detected in the babies, which included chlorpheniramine, diazepam and alprazolam; which are used to treat anxiety.

She stated that she was prescribed alprazolam, otherwise known as Xanax, only in 2018.

She added that she had never been prescribed diazepam, known as Valium, from 2016 to 2019.

However, she testified that both drugs were prescribed to her in 2016.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Seah Ee Wei asked Jamari about her prescriptions, to which she admitted she lied about her prescription for Xanax.

But she denied lying to distance herself from the drugs that were found in the babies.

She told District Judge John Ng: “I’m not lying, I just can’t remember.”

Sa’adiah is now out on bail of $10,000 and the trial resumes today.
