Netizens are currently furious after another NUS student “escapes from the law”. Undergraduate, Yin Zi Qin, 23, who is a dental student in NUS, recently strangled and thumbed the eye of his ex-girlfriend after breaking up with him.
He was only given a 12 days detention with no criminal record.
Let’s look at another previous case which involved another NUS student.

Terence Siow Yun Kai, was sentenced to probation for repeatedly molesting a woman at Serangoon MRT station in September 2018. It was stated that he escaped jail term because he had the “potential to excel in life”.
He was required to do community service and was given 21 months probation.
Probation are normally given to younger offenders up to the age of 21-years-old. Unless you are like NUS students, Yin Zi Qin and Terrence Siow with grades of flying colors. They both received probation sentences despite both being 23-years-old.
Here are some comments by Facebook users out there who are angry with the “easy” sentence which was given out.

The PAP Women’s Wing even made a statement and stated that they were dismayed with the sentence. “The PAP Women’s Wing and PAP Women Members of Parliament strongly denounce violence against women. Like many members of the public, we are dismayed that the sentence in this case appears disproportionate to the offence,” the statement said.
