Facebook user Lee Siew Yian shared on her profile, how her fellow volunteer – a heavily tattooed young man – was subject to stereotypes.
During a volunteering run for Keeping Hope Alive 让希望活下去, the old woman hesitated to open her gate for them upon seeing the young man’s tattoos.
It was only when Lee explained that the tattooed man is one of the kindest and most hardworking volunteers that the auntie finally relented and let them in.
Lee wrote: “It is common for us to stereotype and associate people with tattoos as ‘troublemakers’ or ‘rebels’. Please pause for a moment and think again. Do we really know the person? This is just their outer appearance.”
She added: “Thank you, brother, for showing us that we should not be quick to cast our judgments and that appearance can be a deceit. (sic)”
