PUB stated on Wednesday (July 22) that the water supply remains safe to consume. This comes after homeowners gave feedback to PUB that there was a faint pandan smell in boiled tap water from residents in different locations in Singapore.
The locations are at Pasir Rias, Yishun and Tampines. Various testing was done on water from various affected homes and the organic compound tetrahydrofuran (THF) was detected in the water.
“(The compound) may be detected by customers with a keen sense of smell or palate, but is otherwise without any adverse health effects in trace amounts,” a PUB stated.
PUB further stated that the investigations have shown the smell appears to be linked to water imported from Malaysia.
