64 YEAR OLD WHO ASSAULTED NEA OFFICER WHO CAUGHT HIM SMOKING, TO BE CHARGED

In a news release on Tuesdauy, the Singapore Police Force said that a 64-year-old man will be charged on Wednesday (July 29) for allegedly shoving a National Environment Agency (NEA) officer and grabbing his neck at Block 26 Telok Blangah Crescent.

The police said that on April 5, they responded to a call for assistance that involved a man and two NEA officers.

They added that their preliminary investigations revealed that the man was spotted smoking at a non-designated smoking table at a coffeeshop by the two officers and when they asked him for his particulars, he did not cooperate and ran away.

The officers then gave chase and caught up with him, to which the 64-year-old lman “used his hand to grab the officer’s neck” after shoving him, while hurling vulgarities at him.

He was then arrested by the police.

The 64-year-old man will be charged with voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from the discharge of his duty, as well as for using abusive language against a public servant.

The police summed up their statement: “The police have zero tolerance towards such acts of violence against public servants who are carrying out their duties and will not hesitate to take action against those who blatantly disregard the law.”
