Eric Kow, an auxiliary police officer, was sentenced to four weeks jail after firing a shotgun despite knowing that nearby building was in his line of fire. Due to his actions, multiple shotgun pellets became lodged in the front door of a flat which was 23m away.
Kow, a Malaysian, was deployed to shoot and cull crows in Hougang. The incident happened on Feb 12, 2019. Kow spotted some crows in a tree in the Hougang vicinity and he alighted his vehicle with a loaded shotgun. His body-worn camera was left behind in the car.
During the firing, no warning signs were displayed and the area was not cordoned off before the crow culling activity.
A woman who was at home during the shooting heard a loud sound and found multiple holes in her front door. She then called the police.
For committing a rash act that could endanger the personal safety of others, an offender can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to $2,500.
