Cassie Ong Shi Hong, 32, was fined $4,000 on Wednesday (August 26) for one charge of permitting people not from her household to enter her flat for a social gathering.
The police discovered an illegal gathering of 18 people at Ong’s flat which she shared with her fiance.
Ong then dissolved their engagement after a bitter fight.
A second charge of meeting the 16 guests in her Compassvale Crescent flat for a social gathering was taken into consideration.
At the time, Ong was engaged to Leong Chee Mun, 37, the co-accused.
Their friend suggested a social gathering at their place, which the couple agreed to.
16 people arrived at their home on May 9, earlier this year.
The incident happened during the “circuit breaker” when social gatherings were not allowed.
Their neighbour called the police at 2am to complain that there were many youngsters entering and leaving the flat, adding that she was certain they didn’t live there.
She also added that this happened almost every night.
Police arrived and heard sounds of people from inside the flat, as well as shushing noises. The officer also notices many items of footwear outside.
The police eventually found 16 people inside.
After the police left, Ong argued with Leong and they ended up ending their engagement.
Ong moved out the Sengkang flat.
Ong’s defence lawyer, Cory Wong, argued that Ong was not close to most of the guests, who were Leong’s immediate friends or relatives, and that she was in an “increasingly toxic” relationship; he asked for a fine of S$3,000 instead of S$4,000.
Wong added that: “She was simply added to a group chat of Leong’s own friends by Leong and she reiterates that she is not close to anyone in the group chat.
For breaking a COVID-19 regulation, Ong could have been jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$10,000, or both.
Leong is set to plead guilty next month.
