According to a media release, there won’t be enough COVID-19 vaccines for the world to get our life back to normal. In order to go back to the pre-COVID time, it will be at least 2022.
This was mentioned by the chief scientist Soumya Swaminathan from the World Health Organisation (WHO) in a viral meeting on 15 Sep 2020. According to Swaminathan, 60% to 70% of a population is needed to be isolated before the number of infections cases see a dramatic drop.
The WHO is currently gathering resources from across the world to expedite the development and production of the COVID-19 vaccines. However, only hundreds of millions of these vaccines will only be available in mid of 2021.
There are not enough vaccines to be distributed across 170 countries.
In the meantime, preventive measures should be still in place until there are enough vaccines for everyone and it is safe to say that it could be 2022 when life goes back to normal Swaminathan said.
