According to the netizen, he /she was rejected for a full-time position in a large construction firm. He/she was rejected for the full-time position and was offered a traineeship instead.

Only to his /her surprise, the reason why he/she was rejected was that the company is actually considering a foreigner for the job who happened to be the netizen classmate. The netizen then felt discriminated and unfair. As he/she shared the same qualification and experience but the company decides to offer the job to a foreigner rather than a local.

Full Story Here:

“Applied for a full-time job for a large firm in the construction industry and was offered a traineeship instead. The economy is in shatters so I took up the traineeship with the possibility of conversion to full-time if my performance is

A few weeks into the job, I found out that the firm is actually looking to hire a full-timer for the same job scope as my traineeship, which made me wonder why I was rejected for the full-time position and given the traineeship instead. Later I found out that the candidate in consideration for the full-time position is literally my own ex-classmate who is a foreigner.

I was upset to know that between a local and a foreigner with the same educational qualifications, both fresh grads with roughly the same amount of past work experience, the foreigner is being considered for a full-time position while the local has to settle for the traineeship. To make matters worse this is a highly prominent company whom I do not wish to name out of fear of getting even my traineeship revoked.

The point is to let people know there’s still plenty of discrimination against locals happening under the radar – no matter how hard we work, there will always be a foreigner out there who’s better qualified and willing to accept lower pay. If we accept a super low pay with long hours of work, there will be yet another foreigner elsewhere who’s willing to work even longer than that, at even lower pay. It’s a race to the bottom for job applicants, to the benefit of employers.
