With the closure of many popular Thai Discos/KTV in Singapore, many of the workers who are here as “performance artists” has became jobless and had to seek alternative methods to sustain their lives.
Many of these performance artist originate from numerous parts of Asia, some more Thailand, Vietnam, China and so on.
Some went home when their work permits expired, but there is quite a large group of divorced foreign wives who are still residing in Singapore for various reasons such as having a child here.
With no husbands to support them, they went back to various part time or odd jobs, many of which worked in “night” joints as hostess.
Pubs also known as “Cafes”
Many of them has spread out to so called “cafes” which sells minimal food and mostly serves drinks. It is not illegal to operate with the girls as long they have valid permits to work. However, so of this establishments decided to operate and serve alcohol beyond 10.30 PM which resulted in raids and closures and fines. One example would be a popular joint located along Science Park Drive.
Massage Parlours
Many of the “entertainers” from KTV end up in various massage parlours along the island, when we are talking about massage parlours it is never about a “normal, traditional” massage. It is always something sleazy and always with an happy ending.
They can be found in Jalan Besar, Geylang and Joo Chiat.
Some started own business
While many of them went back to the jobs that their best at, a number of them started to open up businesses in Singapore. But many of the businesses are still of similar origin due to the sheer amount of revenue they can make in a short time.
