20 Y.O MAN PULLS OUT KNIFE AND PUNCH POLICE OFFICER IN THE FACE AT BEACH ROAD

According to the Police a 20-year-old man was arrested after attacking a Police office on 9 October 2020. He is facing charges for voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty and possession of weapon.

The incident happened on the 9 October 2020 at about 3.50am, Police officers who were patrolling near block 6 Beach Road encountered the man at the lift lobby. The officers conducted a check on the man and wanted him to provide some identification, however when he was told to do so, he tried to run away and even pulled out the knife from his black sling bag.

Almost immediately, the Police disarmed and restrain the man, In response to the officer’s who suppressed him, he punch one of the officers in the face and ran away. However, his escape did not last long, the Police found the man at a residential unit at block 6 one hour later. The knife was seized as case exhibit. One of the officers sustained injuries on his face.

The offence of voluntarily causing hurt to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty under Section 332 of the Penal Code carries an imprisonment term of up to 7 years, and a fine or caning. 

The offence of possession of scheduled weapon under Section 7(1) (a) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act carries an imprisonment term not exceeding 5 years, and caning of not less than 6 strokes.
