Sharing a true story about how McSpicy kept me on my feet when I was close to giving up on myself, because I thought there are people who could use a wholesome story in these tough times.
I have been going through a lot in the past few months, and was close to giving up on myself for more times than I could remember. But there is this memory that always gave me the strength to get back on my feet. This was a memory I had long forgotten, but came back to me recently. It gave me something to hold on to when I’m struggling to cope with life.
This happened back when I was in Primary 1. My family was not exactly well off, and my mom would try to save every cent she can. It was to the point that fast food like Macs and KFC was considered a minor luxury. I had this enrichment class every Wednesday, which means I have to eat lunch in school once a week. I was a really picky eater as a kid and none of the school canteen food pleased me. This was the year when McSpicy first appeared and I really loved it. Every Wednesday, my mom would never fail to appear at lunchtime to my school with my beloved McSpicy. Even though my school was some distance away from home, and the nearest Macs is completely out of the way. She complained about how expensive the burger was every time. But every Wednesday, she would still appear at lunchtime with McSpicy, simply because I wanted to eat it.
This continued until I no longer had the enrichment class, and was finally willing to try out the food in the school canteen.
Fast forward to the present, there are times where I really feel unwanted and nobody cares about me. But everytime I feel so, I would buy myself a McSpicy meal. It reminded me of how loved I was, and probably still am, and gave me the strength to walk on. To me, McSpicy is not just fast food, it is the symbol of my mother’s love.
