
A 37-year-old man, Veeramani Subran Das, was sentenced to 3 years of jail with 6 strokes of the cane for his involvement in a robbery as a getaway driver that happened last year.
He was one of the three that has robbed Hock Cheong Jade and Jewellery which was located in Ang Mo Kio. His two other partners were M. Jegatheesh a 27 year old Gogek driver and Sharavindran Suppiah a 31 year old unemployed.
According to the court document, the three men met on 13 Aug 2019 when M. Jegatheesh shared his plan to rob the jewellery store.

- Veeramani Subran Das to be the getaway driver
- Sharavindran Suppiah to sell the jewellery obtained from the robbery
On the day of the robbery, both Jegatheesh and Veeramani met in a carpark at Ang Mo Kio before Jegatheesh went to the store. In the process, Jegatheesh managed to rob a total of $120,000 in jewellery.
After Jegatheesh was done with the robbery, he met Veeramani at a nearby carpark to pass him the stolen goods. Veeramani then pass the stolen good to Sharavindran to sell and kept 3 pieces of the jewellery for himself.
On the day of his arrest, Veeramani threw the jewellery out of the window from his unit which was recovered by the police.
During the court hearing, the prosecutor requested the court to jail Veeramani for three years with 6 strokes of the cane stating that he plays a critical role in the robbery. However, Veeramani pleaded for a lighter sentence as he is the only child looking after his elderly mother.
For his offence for abetting the robbery, Veeramani could face a jail term up to 10 years with a minimum six strokes of the cane.
