A Singaporean guy recently took to Facebook to voice his frustration on how he feels embarrassed of his girlfriend as he felt that she’s not physically attractive. He even stated on how he’s hesitant about showing his friends photos of her.

“I’ve been in a relationship with an amazing girl and tbh we share many interests, we click very well, conversations just flow easily and she has a great personality. However, the thing is she is not that physically attractive. Whenever we go out on dates, I don’t really care about her physical appearance. She doesn’t really put on makeup. But on some dates when we go out to town and we take photos together, that’s when after looking at the photo, I just feel she does not look that good. I’m so thankful to have met her as she is such a wonderful person but yet I feel horrible at the same time for being superficial at wanting her to look physically attractive as well. Because of this, I would talk about great things about my girlfriend but I would be hesitant about showing my friends photos of her. I remember some of their reactions were like “oh…”
I know that if she wears make-up she’ll look kinda pretty but she does not like wearing make-up. She’s quite self-conscious about her looks and I don’t want to hurt her by asking her to put on make-up. Is it ok to want your partner to put in more effort in how they look when going out on dates? How do I encourage her to wear make-up?
Also, I feel really guilty that even though I believe what matters is a great personality, I still care about appearances also. I’ve been reminding myself a lot that it doesn’t matter but it’s still hard for me to not care about what others think of my girlfriend. What should I do to change my attitude as well?”
