62 & 27 WOMAN ARRESTED FOR ILLEGAL OFFENCES IN GEYLANG

62 men and 27 women who were aged between 16 and 94 were arrested after a multi-agency enforcement operation was conducted in Geylang during the first week of December.

They were arrested for various offences which ranged from illegal gambling to drug related offences.

Here was what was stated in the Singapore Police Force.

ILLEGAL BETTING

13 men and 15 women aged between 21 and 94 were investigated for illegal gambling offences. A total of $69,500 was seized during the raid.

The suspects will also be investigated for breaching safe distancing measures under the COVID-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

Under the Betting Act, any person who bets with a bookmaker is liable, on conviction, to a fine up to $5,000, or to imprisonment of up to six months, or to both. Any person who acts as a bookmaker is liable, on conviction, to a fine between $20,000 and $200,000, and to imprisonment of up to five years.

The Police will continue to clamp down on criminal activities, including illegal gambling. Those found engaging in illicit activities will be dealt with sternly in accordance with the law.

PUBLIC ENTERTAINMENT OUTLETS OPERATING ILLEGALLY

Another 24 men and 10 women were investigated in an operation targeting public entertainment outlets that were operating illegally which went against the Covid 19 Act 2020.

Some were also investigated for offences after breaching safe distancing measure and liquor license conditions.

DRUG RELATED OFFENCES

20 men were also arrested for various drug offences for the sale of illegal drugs. They were also investigated for being a member of a secret society.

Drugs such as cough syrups and sexual enhancement and other illegal pills with a total street value of $13,800 were seized.

The Police from the Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre said in a statement that this operation is part of a multi-agency effort to clamp down criminal activities in Geylang so as to keep the area safe and orderly.
