TAXI DRIVER JAILED AFTER KNOCKING DOWN A STUDENT, LEFT HER WITH BRAIN INJURIES

A 64-year-old taxi driver was sentenced to 3 months of jail after he found guilty of committing a rash act.

It was reported that the taxi driver had knocked down a junior college student who was crossing the road at a zebra crossing. The victim was in the midst of taking her A level at the time of the incident. She didn’t manage to complete her exam due to the accident.

According to the court documents, the accident happened on 17 Nov 2017 along Bukit Batok West Avenue 7. It was said that the driver did not notice the victim as he was checking his cab’s mobile display terminal for bookings.

After the driver hit the victim, he stopped to check on the victim. The victim was left shaken and crying after she was hit. The girl was later conveyed to the hospital after the accident.

After examination, the girl was found suffering from a brain injury. She has lost her sense of smell and was required to be hospitalised for 15 days. She then undergoes intensive rehabilitation treatment which includes physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
