
A 59-year-old man was sentenced to 30 weeks of jail after he was found guilty of punching a taxi driver.
The incident happened during the wee hours of 27 Feb 2020, the man was picked up by the taxi driver at Orchard Tower. The man was heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident and he punched the taxi driver after missing a turn to his place.
After punching the taxi driver, the man offers to give him money as compensation after seeing the driver wanting to call the police. The man attempted to leave the scene but was stopped by the taxi driver. However, the man still left after saying that he has to use the toilet.
The taxi driver was later conveyed to the hospital upon the police arrival. The taxi driver has suffered from a chipped tooth, a nasal fracture as well as other injuries. According to the law, for causing grievous hurt to others, the man could be jailed up to 10 years, fined or caned.
