On Monday 1 February 2021, Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong was re-elected as the general secretary of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV).

Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has written a letter as the People’s Action Party secretary-general to congratulate the CPV’s general secretary stating that Vietnam has made good progress and advance considerably over the years under the good leadership of Mr. Trong.
Mr. Trong will continue to be the president of Vietnam, an appointment which he was holding since 2018.
