Here is the full post.

Ten workers were taken to hospital for burn injuries following an explosion at a Tuas industrial building on 24 Feb 2021 Wednesday morning. Gruesome images of the workers with the outer layer of their skin peeled off have kept us awake at night in despair. These images are a sobering reminder that beneath our different skin colors, we are all capable of feeling pain and sorrow.

Three of the burnt migrant workers sadly did not survive. Marimuthu, 38, is one of them.

Marimuthu, like the other affected workers, left his hometown to work in Singapore with hopes of a better life for his family. His wife, Rajapriya, 28, is now left to carry the burden of supporting his aged mother and their two daughters (Riya Sri of 5 years and new born Lithesaa of just 10 months). Muthu never met his younger daughter and she will never know the love of a father, see his face or feel his embrace. Colleagues remember Muthu as “Yes. I know him. He worked as a safety supervisor under me. 5 yrs back. Good guy. Helping minded.”

We do not profess to fully understand the pain and burden of the affected families. Our team too, is devastated to receive this news. Words fail us at times like this.

At the time of writing, five other workers continue to be in critical condition. IRR is working intensely to get in touch with all affected families on the ground to ensure they get adequate support for the immediate days ahead.

We appreciate every precious dollar, thought and prayer for these workers. At this time we are only in contact with Marimuthu’s family based on information available to us. All proceeds from this campaign will go towards his widow, young children and mother. We will also update this campaign page in the subsequent days, in light of the evolving situation if we are able to contact other families in which case proceeds will be equally divided.
