Joshua Ng Weijie, 30-years-old, pleaded guilty to one count of assault and one count of criminal intimidation.
At the time of the offences, Ng lived together with his now 54-year-old girlfriend in a condominium unit that she rented.
Ng then became abusive and assaulted her in January and March last year following an argument.
In April 2020, Ng asked her to borrow $3,000 from a loanshark, to which she did so and reminded him to pay back the Ah Longs on time, which made Ng angry and resulted in him punching her face.
In a separate argument on 25 April 2020, the pair had an argument at about 3am and Ng then left the bedroom, only to return moments later with a samurai sword.
He unsheathed the sword in front of the victim and placed the blade of the sword against her collar bone.
The woman then called police at 5pm the same day and Ng was then arrested.
The victim was conveyed to hospital where she was found with multiple bruises.
Ng also admitted to three other charges which were unrelated; including drugs consumption and driving without a valid license.
He reportedly took methamphetamine and drove a car without a valid license last year.
