MAN WHO ASSAULTED OWN MOTHER’S PRIVATE PARTS JAILED, DETAILS OF ABUSE EMERGE

Following up on our previous coverage of 30-year-old Andy Koh Ju Hua’s vile and inhuman abuse of his own mother, new details have since emerged of his mother’s assault after the former was sentenced to 56 weeks jail on 23 March 2021.

In one incident after he punched his 68-year-old mother’s face, he forced her to stand by the sink holding an ice pack to her face for 12 hours, from 6.30pm in the evening to 6.30am in the morning.

He then kept watch over her from his room, threatening to hit her if she lowered her hands.

Koh also hit his mother on the head once with a remote control, resulting in the elderly woman being left with a scar.

Koh took steps to avoid being found out, such as not allowing his mother to answer the door or let the neighbours see her; and any time the neighbours came around, he would make her hide at the staircase or retreat.

He only allowed her to wear old and torn clothes so that it would be difficult for her to escape and seek help from others.

Koh targeted his mother’s private parts as injuries in that area could be concealed.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Magdalene Huang sought a sentence of 50 weeks jail for Koh.

Koh, in response, asked if he could be given 30 weeks jail instead because he wanted to continue school and “complete my candidature” to complete his master’s degree with NUS.

NUS has previously stated that Koh was on a leave of absence in August 2019 and didn’t return to his studies after the expiration of his leave, resulting in his candidature being terminated in January.
