Pichet Panapong, the Deputy Governor for Phuket, said that their country’s infectious diseases committee approved the proposal for vaccinated foreign visitors to be allowed entry into Phuket without quarantine from July onwards.
He said that Phuket hasn’t seen a new Covid-19 case in 89 days and needs foreign tourists urgently, to stimulate the economy and tourism industry.
Panapong added that they have over 1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines ready for the local population.
He also added that those who are visiting without being quarantined would have their movements tracked using a Covid-19 tracing app while on the island (ThailandPlus).
They would need to show a vaccination certificate, vaccine passport or IATA travel pass, as well as take a PCR test at the airport.
Thai Minister of Tourism and Sports, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, added that Pattaya would be next for a similar reopening scheme.
