A netizen took to Twitter to explain to another user who asked for the borders to be closed, to control the number of imported cases into Singapore, why it would be almost impossible to do so.
She explained that Singapore cannot completely close our borders because we are a country that relies heavily on trade, adding that passenger planes also ferry large amounts of cargo that is necessary to Singapore.
She said that if we were to completely close our borders, we wouldn’t be able to stock grocery stores or shoppin gmalls, and there will almost definitely be a shortage of necessary goods.
She also added that passenger planes also carry people who have to travel, for work/family/personal reasons, and that it isn’t just limited to tourism.
Also, tourism isn’t a valid reason to travel at the moment.
She also highlighted that Singapore is actually more controlled in terms of passenger arrivals as compared to other countries, and that at least Singapore is taking the necessary precautions to quarantine all incoming international arrivals and conduct routine testing.
She then appealed to others to stop inconveniencing a lot more people than just themselves by thinking that they can just “close the borders”.
