ONG YE KUNG: GOVT WILL MONITOR & DECIDE IF ANOTHER CIRCUIT BREAKER NEEDED

The Multi-Ministry Task Force (MTF) announced in a press conference yesterday (16 May), that in light of the recent spike of Covid-19 cases in Singapore and the tightening of restrictions on Covid-19 measures, the government will continue to monitor the situation and come to a decision later, as to whether another circuit breaker will be implemented.

Ong explained that the government needs to consider some factors before a decision is made.

He pointed out that yesterday was the first day that more stringent measures were put in place, coupled with the pairing of Antigen Rapid Testing (ART) with Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing, cases will be detected much faster.

Among the factors to be monitored will be how cases surface and if they can be flushed out more quickly, and also the severity of the disease among the people who have been vaccinated, as well as those who have been infected by vaccinated individuals.

Ong added that when the time is right, they will make the right decisions, and that “if it is a circuit breaker, we will say it is a circuit breaker.”
