
The Singapore police released a statement earlier today (8 June), saying that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), along with 7 police land divisions, conducted operations from 24 April to 6 June, to clamp down on illegal horse betting at multiple locations.
A total of 158 people between the ages of 36 and 83, are currently under investigations for allegedly being involved in illegal horse betting as well and breaching safe distancing measures.

Housing Board officers also took part in the operation, enforcing against the safe distancing breaches.
Cash amounting to more than $76,000, along with several mobile phones and documents suspected to be betting records, were seized.

The 158 people under investigation are purportedly illegal bookies accepting illegal horse racing bets, the bookies’ runners and gamblers who placed the bets.
The police emphasized against illegal betting, saying that they take a serious view against all forms of illegal betting activities.
Under the Betting Act, anyone who bets with a bookmaker can be fined up to $5,000, jailed for not more than six months, or both.
