Here is the story:

I was having my late lunch at canteen 13, Tuas South Street 5. Sitting in front the seat nearest to the drink stall to grab a drink fast as I was alone, food on the table.

I noticed two gentlemen trying to self-service taking a Pau from the steam cabinet, (林记包点), and accidentally drop the Pau on the floor. He did not notice I was behind witnessing all this. Quickly using the same tong, he put back the Pau into the cabinet. His friend quickly turned around and saw me, surprisingly he did not tell his friend. (sad…. what a good buddy) He then put the dropped one back to the cabinet, at the lowest rack, I believe he had thought that the lowest rack having less chance of getting purchased. I hope so.

I observed quietly. Both of them pay for a new Pau and drink, sitting behind me for a few minutes then left. My eye keeps watching at the Pau in the cabinet, I was so worried. After that those gentlemen left, I told the store girl about this, hoping she can do something, but that’s the angriest part. She told me, leave it, those not sold Pau would be returned. What?????? Is that the way? I took out 2 dollars and told her, I want the Pau, I don’t want anyone to consume it accidentally, and in fact, theoretically the whole steam cabinet should already be contaminated due to the circulating steam air inside. She refused to take my money and told me she will handle it, plus emphasis again, the unsold one, will be returned! I was super fed up by her, taking out the Pau, and I realized there are two curly hairs on the Pau!!!!!! Disgusting! That’s the dropped one! I passed the Pau to the store girl and told her I want to pay for it. She grabbed the Pau using her bare hand, while I was still holding it with a tong and thrown it aside, drop it into the shelf beside her, that displaying all packed bread, cakes, dried food shelf. I was super angry but since the Pau was settled, I left.
I spent the whole two days ponder with a few things

1. How can the sales of Pau still at self-service mode at this sensitive period? I thought even buffet in hotel also served by the staff rather than self service?
2. How selfish can a man be? What is the cost of a Pau to his conscience?
3. What is the value of hygiene to the food store lady ? Are we all in high risk?
4. What else can I do?

I am sorry for not able to take any evidential photo as I was having no second thought than making sure the contaminated food was removed. Photo was the canteen taken from google.
