A doctor with over 20 years of experience was previously jailed after he reveals his groin to a woman on the bus for the reason of “the way she dresses”.
He felt that the way the woman dress provoked him and he had to respond by unzipping and revealing his underwear to the woman. In the case, Dr Azman Osman said that that he has strong religious ideals on how a woman should wear when she is out.
He was jailed in 2017 after he was convicted of insulting the modesty of a woman for exposing his groin to a woman on a SBS bus.
A separate disciplinary action was conducted by Singapore Medical Council(SMC) yesterday (13 July 2021) and they have suspended him from practising medicine for four months till November 12.
The committee felt that his strong views on how a woman should dress would affect his ability as a doctor.
Dr Azman believed that the victim to who he exposed himself to was a prostitute. However, lawyers from the SMC wanted a 6 to 9 months suspension and disallow him to see any more female patients unless the presence of another party. They also stated that Dr Azman did not show any signs of remorse for his offence.
Even though he pleaded guilty for his crime he still felt that he committed the act due to how the woman dress and used the term “provoked” to justify his actions.
